Hybrid Program students spend about 40% of their time in class, with the remainder in various activities beyond the classroom. These include independent assignments, community and volunteer projects, extended learning through technology, individual tutoring, student-organized study groups, teacher-led review sessions, as well as extracurricular activities.
RVCS home school students can take advantage of all the outstanding programs and activities we offer. Both the Hybrid Program and Independent Study tracks can access student activities like prom, game night, sports, field trips, international travel, etc. Students who want to change tracks may switch at the end of a semester.
Honors and AP courses are a great way for our college-bound students to level up their college applications. An advanced course goes at a faster pace and covers more material than regular classes - and they look great on a college application.
There's nothing like an early start. Dual enrollment gives students the opportunity to complete high school with a diploma and an associate degree. Full-time high school students can take up to two courses each semester at an accredited college. In addition to traditional college courses, RVCS offers some college-level classes taught personally by our talented staff.
RVCS high school students take four years of mathematics, social science, science, and English as we build an academically excellent foundation that meets or exceeds the California State standards. They also accomplish credits in arts, foreign language, physical education, and a rich selection of electives.
What's the best thing about college prep at RVCS? Your teenager learns in an environment that is set up like
college classes, has the flexibility to choose in-person or independent study, and gets the assurance of an outstanding, guided experience no matter which
track they follow.

Challenging academics and connections across subjects make the 7th and 8th grades at RVCS a terrific place for a smooth transition into the rigors of high school.
An atmosphere of mutual respect where parents, teachers, and students work together as a team creates a collaborative learning environment at River Valley High.
Dual enrollment allows high school students to get an early start on college-level classes that count for both high school and college credit. It's a win-win for families and students.
Based on student interest each year,
RVCS offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities as we develop well-rounded students.
RVCS offers soccer, volleyball, track, cross country, and swimming.
Emerging literary writers and artists develop talents, collaborate toward the final product, and publish their work.
River Valley offers a full range of content creation tools--from top of the line editing suites and software to cinema, vlogging, and podcast cameras and mics.
As technology comes to influence every aspect of work and home, robotics offers an entry point for students interested in tech. Robotics has the potential to inspire career pathways as students enjoy the maker process.
Participating in Yearbook is a great way to get involved with every aspect of RVCS. It touches on EVERYTHING that goes on in our school and community. Yearbook is a great excuse to stay connected at all levels, and the natural companion is Photography, as students contribute to the visuals that make a yearbook so much fun.
